The Senate on Wednesday observed a minute silence in honour of a slain Catholic Priest in Niger State, Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi.

Fr Achi was recently burnt to death in Paikoro Local Government Area in Niger State by unknown assailants.

The resolution of the Senate followed its consideration of a motion on the gruesome murder of the priest moved by Senator Sani Musa on the floor during plenary.

The Senate also condoled with the family of the deceased, the Bishop of Minna Diocese.

It would be recalled that on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at about 3 am, armed Islamic terrorists in a renewed attack on Christians, invaded the Parish residence of Reverend Father Isaac Achi of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, along Daza Road, Kafin-Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area, LGA, of Niger State.

Achi, until his gruesome death, was the Kafin Koro Deanery of the Minna Diocese of Niger State and the Priest in charge of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kafin Koro.

Meanwhile, the Apex Christian body CAN had sympathised with family and loved ones of the priest

A Statement signed by Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh President, Christian Association of Nigeria said “His death is a sad development at a time his parishioners and by extension other Christians in the country can benefit more from his leadership and sense of direction,”

He described the cleric’s murder as tragic and a big loss to the Church since the Reverend Father was, according to him, a guardian and philanthropist to many needy members of the society.

CAN, however, appealed to the authorities to improve internal and external security framework to stop future occurrences of such incidents that led to Fr. Achi’s sudden demise.

The remains of the cleric was buried at St. Michael Catholic Church grounds in Minna, Niger State .It was witnessed by family and friends of the late priest, who poured encomiums on him for his good works
