Niger CAN urges Nigerians to vote God-fearing candidate

The Christian Association of Nigeria, Niger State chapter, has called on the Christians to cast their for God-fearing and credible candidates at the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, Saturday, March 18.

It made this disclosure on Sunday, adding that such candidates should be those who have the wherewithal for development and peaceful co-existence among the people.

“The elections will take place on March 18. I enjoin everyone to vote for candidates of their choice,’’ CAN chairman in the state, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, said in the statement.

While explaining further on the kind of aspirants they should vote for, he said after due consultation with the national body, the state chapter urged the members to look into character, competence, capacity and the manifesto of all the candidates before chosing who to represent them at the governance of the state.

“The candidate must be God-fearing, honest and respectful of the rule of law, justice and fairness for all.

“He or she must have respect for religious and ethnic diversity,’’ the chairman said.

He stated the Christians must look for candidates with compassionate, disciplined and live credible lifestyles; who is not a cultists, religious fanatics, involved in illicit drugs or have long history of relationship with bandits and policsl thugs.

The cleric also charged the believers to watch out for the candidates who will guarantee internal security, religious neutrality, and enforcement of fundamental rights and be fair in appointments and improve the health care sector.

He then urged the Christians to fervently pray for the election to be hitch-free.
