An Islamic cleric in Kano State, Sheikh Mahajjadina Sani Kano has called on political leaders to involve religious leaders in governance at all levels of government in Nigeria.
Sani Kano who made the call in a chat with newsmen in Abuja, specially told the new leadership of the National Assembly to include religious leaders in governace so that they can contribute meaningfully to governance in the country especially in the area of security.
While reasoning that religious leaders were being under utilized, he said that they are needed to curb indiscipline in the society.
Sani Kano said religious leaders can serve as moderators in the face of severe moral decadence among Nigerian youths.
The cleric said immoral acts such as phone snatching and hooliganism which ultimately make youths easy targets for recruitment into more sophisticated crime like terrorism, banditry and insurgency can be handled by religious leaders.
Sani Kano then called on states being ravaged by terrorism to involve religious clerics in addressing the menace.
“This has been tested and found to be effective in several countries around the world, so Nigeria should also follow the cue, so that the activities of terrorists can be history in our country,” he said.
