Gunmen kidnap Anambra Catholic priest

Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a Catholic priest, Rev Fr Stanislaus Mbamara, in Nnewi, Anambra State.

According to the Nation, the cleric abduction was confirmed by Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, in a statement signed by the Chancellor, Fr. Raphael Ezeogu.

It was gathered that the young priest was abducted Friday evening, while driving from Awka the state capital to Nnewi, where he serves.

According to the statement, “Our priest, Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Mbamara, a student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, was kidnapped yesterday (Friday) evening, on his way from Awka to Nnewi.

“Let’s storm heaven with humble and insistent prayers for his quick release in sound health of mind and body. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Help of Christians, pray with and for us.”

The details of the kidnap and wether the abductors had been contacted are yet to be made public.

However, the State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga said he was yet to receive the report, promising to make enquiry.

“There is no such report before me, please.
I will make enquiry,” he said.
