Don’t buy Sallah ram with borrowed money, Kwara cleric warns Muslims
A Chief Imam of Ar-razaq Mosque at Tanke in Ilorin, Kwara State, Malam Muhammad Adewoyin, has admonished Muslims faithful not to borrow to fulfil the religious obligation of sacrificing ram during Sallah, noting that Sallah is not a time to show affluence.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the cleric made warning while speaking with journalists on Tuesday, saying that borrowing to fulfil such religious obligagion is to incur unnecessary debt.
Adedoyin, who, however, noted that the act of sacrificing an animal during Sallah is a symbol of obedience and devotion to Allah, said, “Borrowing to fulfil this obligation is a way of imposing an unnecessary financial burden on oneself. Sallah is not an opportunity to show off affluence or materialism,” he said.
The Chief Imam, who is also the Principal Assistant Registrar at University of Ilorin, said it is an Islamic practice to celebrate with friends and family during the Eid-El-Kabir festivity.
“However, Muslims are expected to spend responsibly during the Sallah celebration,” he added.
He equally maintained that it is not obligatory for Muslims to purchase new clothes or spend unnecessarily for the purpose of celebrating Sallah.
He then called on Muslims in the country to be prudent generally while celebrating during the period.
