Tinubu: Why international bodies must stop congratulating Nigeria – Catholic priest
A Nigerian missionary priest serving in Gambia, Rev Fr Kelvin Ugwu, has alleged the Independent National Electoral Commission, of compromising the presidential election results in favour of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, adding that Tinubu was elected but erected by INEC.
Recall that INEC has declared Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election. He has also been issued with the certificate of return by the electoral body on Wednesday.
According to Daily Post, however, the Nigerian cleric condemned the development and cautioned foreigners to stop congratulating the country on its president-elect, arguing that Nigerians did not elect him.
Ugwu made the statement in a post via his verified Facebook page on Thursday.
He claimed that Tinubu as a president-elect was erected by the INEC.
He said, “For friends who are not from Nigeria, stop congratulating us on our elections. We did not elect him. What we have is an old man who right from the start has perfected the art of stealing and manipulating his way to the top and he felt that the last stealing he needs to do before his death is the presidency.
“What we have technically is a president that was erected by Independent National Electoral Commission. I do not join you all in saying president-elect because I am yet to see how his election came about by Nigerians. Instead, he is their President-erect. . .and the erection will not last.”
