Workers Day: CAN urges FG, employers to prioritize employee welfare

The Christian Association of Nigeria has urged the government and employers to treat employees with respect and dignity and to give them safe, secure jobs with good working conditions.

This occurred as the religious organization welcomed Nigerian laborers to the May Day celebration in 2023.

CAN says it acknowledges the priceless contributions made by Nigerian workers to the expansion and advancement of our magnificent country.

In a statement, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh praised Nigerian workers for their tenacity, commitment, and hard work in advancing the country’s economy in spite of the many difficulties they have faced.

“We appreciate the daily sacrifices they make to provide a better future for their families and the country as a whole.

“As Christians, we believe that work is more than just a way to make a living; it is also a way for us to fulfill our God-given purpose on this earth.” Therefore, knowing that their labor is not in vain, we urge all Nigerian workers to approach their work with diligence, excellence, and integrity.

“We also want to take this opportunity to show our support for Nigerian employees who have suffered because of the current economic climate. Therefore, we urge both the government and employers to make sure that employees are treated with respect and dignity and that they have access to safe working environments, competitive pay, and stable employment.

“The Christian Association of Nigeria is committed to working with stakeholders to promote the welfare and well-being of Nigerian workers and will keep advocating for policies and programmes that will increase their productivity, skills, and employment opportunities.”
