An unknown number of worshippers have been feared trapped in the rubble of a church which collapsed in Anambra State.

The PUNCH reporter that the Madonna Catholic Church in Iyiowa, Odekpe Community, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, collapsed on Sunday.

The neighbourhood is just one of many areas of the state that are dealing with flooding, which is thought to be what led to the collapse.

The number of fatalities is unknown as of the time of reporting this story, but locals are still working to free trapped people.

This comes less than two days after an ill-fated boat carrying approximately 85 passengers capsized in Umunnankwo Community in the same Ogbaru LGA, killing many.

The police and other key agencies had not yet responded to the development.
