The Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, Rev. John Oyejola, has charged Nigerians to shun vote selling ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Oyejola who gave a sermon at an event held at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Osogbo, tagged, “Diocesan Youth Day,” on Sunday, decried the inability of politicians in the country to fulfil many of their campaign promises after winning elections.

He then advised Nigerians to choose their next set of leaders with the fear of God and without falling for politicians’ inducements.

Oyejola said if Nigerians can resist inducement, political office holders would no longer take them for granted.

He said, “Don’t sell your vote. That is where your integrity lies. I was happy when I heard that during the last governorship election, in a particular polling unit in Osogbo here, voters chased away those that attempted to buy votes from them. I was proud to hear that.

“They voted and they did not collect money from anyone. If everybody could do that, the politicians would sit up because they know they can’t get there without your votes. So, if they promise to provide potable water, they will fulfil that promise.”
