There’ll be consequences if 2023 election is rigged, warns Catholic cardinal

Catholic Archbishop Emeritus, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has warned against attempt to rig the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

According to Daily Post, the cleric stated that Nigerians would fight back if the general election is rigged.

Onaiyekan spoke on Saturday at the Holy Trinity Church in Maitama, Abuja.

Onaiyekan warned politicians to “desist from any type of manipulation to their favour if not voted for”.

Those who intend to “play games and schemes,” according to the religious leader, must abandon their plans.

“They should enable this election to be free and fair,” stated the former leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

Onaiyekan said that he has no favorite candidate in mind and simply wants the will of the people to prevail.

He claimed that Nigerians are not in the mood to “quietly accept a rigged election” at the moment.

“If somebody does not allow free and fair elections, there will be significant consequences,” Onaiyekan said.
