Taraba community rages over alleged imposition of monarch
The residents of Ndola community of Kurmi Local Gorveni Area have raged over the appointment and turbanning of a traditional ruler by Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State to oversee the traditional affairs.
According to Daily Post, in a statement signed by the community’s spokesperson, Abraham Mcsambo, made available to journalists on Tuesday in Jalingo, the community who were provoked alleged that the appointed monarch hails from a different community and not Ndola.
The statement said, “The news of the appointment and abrupt turbanning of the monarch by the state government on the 23rd March 2023 has left over 95 percent of Ndola people of Kurmi local government in a state of disquiet and dismay.
”The monarch in question is not from the Madaki Tabena ruling house which is the only existing ruling house in the Chiefdom and has no Ndola royal background in Kurmi local government area”.
According to historical background of the Ndola traditional stool, he said the Madaki Tabena ruling house is highly revered and is an ancient ruling house in the history of Ndola Chiefdom.
The community emphasized that the turbaned monarch is not also of Ndola maternal ancestry, arguing that the event was shocking and has left the community in mourning.
“The peace-loving and law-abiding people of Ndola chiefdom are grieved, they are crying silently, wondering how the governor used his hands to destroy and bastardise the creation of the Ndola Chiefdom which the Ndola people regard as the best fruit of democracy availed to them under his administration, with such a heart-aching, unjust and illegal appointment.”
The spokesperson said it was not too late to correct the situation before leaving the office in order to let peace reign in thecommunity and the council at large.
It was learnt that the turbanned monarch was among the seven traditional rulers presented with the staff of office on the 23rd of last month by the outgoing state governor.
