Sultan of Sokoto mourns UI lecturer Ajewole

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar has commiserated the family of Professor Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole over his gruesome murder in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, describing it as saddening and highly condemnable.

The traditional ruler, who doubled as the Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, expressed his condolence to the deceased family over the incident in a statement on Wednesday by Sai’du Maccido, the secretary to the Sultanate Council.

Professor Ajewole, a lecturer at the faculty of Forestry and Environmental Science in University of Ibadan was murdered by gunmen on Monday evening on his way home from work.

The Sultan of Sokoto described the killing as saddening and ‘very highly condemnable’.

“We learnt about the brutal killing of one of our professors at the University of Ibadan. As Chancellor of the university, I condemn the killing while also condoling the family of the late professor and the university community.

“We express our sadness for losing such an ingenious don and the originality that he had been able to contribute to the quality of education and knowledge service delivery at the university during his lifetime”, the Sultan stated.

The monarch, however, urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify their efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
