Same-faith ticket: APC not built on diversity, says Atiku’s spokesman

APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, had named former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate and his decision generated outrage from the Christian community.

Daniel Bwala, the campaign spokesperson for Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has said that the All Progressives Congress is not built on diversity.

Bwala, who made this remark on Thursday when he featured as a guest on TVC News, condemned the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the ruling party.

The former APC chieftain said the single faith ticket of the APC made him exit the party, adding that the same faith ticket contradicts his idealogy of inclusiveness.

APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, had named former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate and his decision generated outrage from the Christian community.

But Bwala, who was recently appointed as Atiku’s campaign spokesman on Thursday, said, “APC over the years has not demonstrated diversity in its operations. If you go to the party there are certain things you couldn’t get and a good example of that… is how I suddenly moved and I got an appointment in PDP.

“Then the question begs for it: why I didn’t get it in APC? Thankfully the presidential candidate of the APC offered that to me but I still had to go because the decision they made to balance the ticket, the decision they made on the ticketing, contradicts my core beliefs about diversity.

“I felt that in a country where the religion cut across almost half-half, 80 million Nigerians will feel they are not a part of the government when you’re forming a ticket of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“And when they said that I was going to be made a spokesperson, I felt that I cannot be a marketer of an idea that I do not subscribe to and on the basis of this diversity, which I felt was not entrenched in APC, I decided to move to PDP.”
