Pope to visit Africa in 2023

Head of the Vatican city, Pope Francis, is expected to visit Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, early next February.

The visit was formally scheduled for July this year but postponed for ill health.

According to Reuters, the Vatican announced the delay of the July 2-7 tour in June, saying Francis had had a flareup of problems with his knee.

“The doctor banned me (from going) but today I am able to walk – using a stick, but I can do it,” Francis said in a video call with African students. He said.

Due to knee pain, the 85-year-old has been forced to perform his official duties in a wheelchair. Additionally, he has hip issues, and in July 2021, he had colon surgery.
