The Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III as part of activities to commemorate his one year of ascension on the throne unveiled the Royal Iwere Society.

According to The Punch, the royal society was established by the monarch to “serve as a hub to revive the Iwere identity and bring it to the era of the 21st century.”

The monarch unveiled the Royal Society on Thursday during the Iwere Music Concert, stating that they will coordinate and organise a central resource for the Itsekiri indigenes, “with a view to mobilising initiatives that will promote Itsekiri identity, arts, history and cultural practices.”

He further added that “the Royal Iwere Society will be the hub to ensure that Itsekiri evolves” while urging all Itsekiri sons and daughters home and abroad to continue with whatever keeps them loyal and true to their origin.

Exemplifying the choir that performed at the concert, the Olu emphasised that the Itsekiri had potential and true treasure embedded was embedded in the ethnic group.

The monarch said, “This is what we can be and will be. We will submit ourselves to God and surpass what we are doing now. In many ways, this is something we have been looking at, and this shall inspire in you unprecedented greatness.”
