The burning alive of the Catholic priest of St. Peter and Paul, Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi, at his home in Kaffin Koro, Paikoro local government area of the state, has been condemned by the Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Sani Bello.
The Governor’s spokesperson, Mary Noel Berje, described the killing as both ungodly and brutal in a statement.
According to her, the worst aspect of terrorist attack is attacking a place of worship with the intention of killing someone.
A part of the statement read: “This is a sad moment, for a priest to be killed in such a manner means that we are not all saved, these terrorists have lost it, and drastic action is needed to end this ongoing carnage.”
He expressed sympathy to the Christian community, particularly the Catholic Church, for the heinous incident and pledged that the government would not relent in its efforts to see that those responsible were brought to justice.
The Governor urged the security authorities to keep developing new tactics to put an end to the heinous and barbaric deeds while also praying for the speedy recovery of the wounded Rev. Father, who was also fired at by the bandits while attempting to flee.
However, the governor asked the populace to maintain their composure as the government will keep working hard to protect people’s lives and way of life.
