The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has described the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, as a preacher who stands out among the crowd.

According to Adesina, Kumuyi is one preacher who has not delved into partisan politics like many other preachers, but ‘dissects the true word of God, seeking prayers for those in authority.’

He made this known on Sunday at a book promotion held in Lagos in his honour.

A group of pastors had written a book, “Kumuyi: Defender of the Faith,” detailing the comportment and outlook of Christians and Christian leaders to prime issues of national development to mark the preacher’s 80th birthday.

Speaking at the event held at the Victoria Crown Plaza Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Adesina said, “At a time like this when most pastors have gone very political, it is good to have somebody like Pastor W. F. Kumuyi. At any given time in Church and human history, there is always a remnant that does not follow the crowd. We are proud that Pastor Kumuyi is that remnant.

“Therefore, when he stands to speak, we can listen, knowing that it is not tainted by prejudice, politics or any other consideration. Whatever he says, you are sure it is what God says. Wherever he stands, it is where the word of God stands.

“I remember, sometime last year, he addressed a press conference. He didn’t throw stones as you would see preachers do today. What he said was a balanced, middle-of-the-road position, which was that we all should pray for those in authority.”

Also speaking, the Chairman-Worldwide, International Friendship League, Pastor Joshua Alabi, in his address said, “In our country, as it is well known, we are facing some of the most severe challenges in history”.
