Deborah: CAN President leads protest in Ibadan

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Olasupo Ayokunle, on Sunday, led a protest to demand justice for those who have lost their lives through religious intolerance.

Ayokunle led a group of Christians in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the peaceful protest.

The demonstrators carried placards with various inscriptions and demanded that the killers of Deborah Yakubu in Sokoto State be brought to book.

Yakubu, a student of the Shehu Shagari College in Sokoto was killed by a mob and her body set ablaze for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

CAN had condemned her murder and called for a nationwide protest.

On Sunday, the protesters also demanded that other Nigerians who have lost their lives due to religious intolerance be served justice.

The protesters occupied the premises of the Oritamefa Baptist Church in Ibadan with placards of various inscriptions.

Speaking to newsmen at the protest ground, Ayokunle said the Federal Government should allow the supremacy of the constitution, as no religious groups should be allow to take laws into their hands.

According to him, there must be justice for those whose lives have been unduly terminated and their dreams perished.

He urged Christians across the country to maintain peaceful coexistence with one another regardless of their religious affiliations.
