The Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, has claimed that the Christian faith is facing threats in the state.
Soludo stated this during the annual prayer gathering sponsored by the Anglican Communion, Province of the Niger, held in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
The governor urged Christians in the state to unite against idolatry.
“The fastest growing religion is idolatry. Christianity is facing a major threat which is idolatry. And we must bond together to defeat it,” Daily Trust quoted Soludo to have said.
The governor commended the Anglican Communion for the yearly prayers across the state.
He stated that despite everything, Anambra is still a Christian community and that such will never be taken for granted.
The governor also urged the church to collaborate with the government in combating terrorism and other anti-social vices affecting the nation.
According to him, everyone should participate in the fight against insecurity because the church, the people, and society all have important roles to play.
Earlier in his lecture, the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of the Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, stated that the people are living in dangerous times and that it is essential to watch and pray.
He reminded the nation’s leaders that human nature is incompatible with God’s holiness and urged them to get nearer to God for spiritual guidance.
“Our leaders are watching with their hands, not with their hearts,” he stated
